Internet Use Policy


Due to an increase in activity on the OPLIN terminals, the Alexandria Public Library would like to remind patrons of the existing Internet Policy currently in effect:

  • Minors using the computers MUST be at least 10 years old AND have a signed parental permission card on file.
  • Individuals using the computer may have no more than ONE additional person observing. Minors observing MUST be at least 10 years old and have a signed parental permission card or be accompanied by an adult.
  • Use of the OPLIN computers are maximum of no more than 1 hour per day by appointment unless permission is previously granted by front desk staff.
  • You may not send, receive or display text or graphics which may reasonably by construed as obscene. Obscene meaning offensive to modesty.
  • You may not access and/or utilize chat rooms.
  • Please respect the privacy of others by not misrepresenting yourself as another user; by not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others; by not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system, or damaging or altering software components of a network or database.
  • You may not use your own software programs on the OPLIN computer. You may use your own storage device to save files.
  • The Alexandria Public Library is not responsible for damage to a patron’s storage device or computer, or from any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from patron use of the library’s computers.
  • There will be a cost of $.20 per page to print documents. Please pay at the circulation desk.
  • You may not always be able to go to the places on the Internet you want to visit. Please try another day or at another time.
  • Misuse of the OPLIN computer or Internet access will result in loss of Internet privileges.
