See “Natural Wonders” at Alexandria Public Library

Traveling Museum Exhibits feature artifacts, specimens, educational displays, family crafts, and books

Alexandria, Ohio, June 12, 2019 – Alexandria Public Library is bringing interactive, museum-quality exhibits to the library that inspire wonder and learning for all ages.

Traveling Museum Exhibits feature six different “Natural Wonders” themes focusing on biodiversity and science learning. Each themed exhibit will be on view at the library bimonthly through Summer 2020 as part of a library grant project.

The Traveling Museum Exhibit project was created through a partnership between The Ohio State University’s Museum of Biological Diversity (OSUMBD) and the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL). It is funded through a federal Institute of Museum and Library Service (IMLS) LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

The exhibits combine wonder, engagement, and learning with all-in-one, interactive mobile kiosks for all ages and feature:

  • Artifacts and specimens
  • Engaging, educational visuals
  • Craft table with take-home family activity
  • Books for loaning

The exhibits provide free access to unique, museum-quality, science-based learning for everyone in the community.

The exhibits also support Ohio’s Learning Standards from the Ohio Department of Education for students pre-kindergarten through grade 12 by promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning.

“We’re always looking for exciting ways to meet the community’s need for exceptional learning opportunities,” said Carrie Strong, Director, Alexandria Public Library. “These exhibits allow us to provide dynamic STEM outreach to patrons of all ages while using alternative funding. This project is a great example of providing greater access to educational resources and strengthening our community partnerships.”

Ohio libraries participating in the exhibit project include: Alexandria Public Library, Fairfield County District Library, Grandview Heights Public Library, Granville Public Library, London Public Library, Pickaway County District Public Library, and Upper Arlington Public Library. The libraries are part of the Central Library Consortium (CLC), 17 Central Ohio library systems sharing resources to offer 67 million items to their cardholders.
