The Alexandria Public Library in Alexandria, Ohio is seeking an enthusiastic leader to continue the tradition of community based, customer-oriented library service who can also be proactive in creating ideas to meet changing user needs. As Director, you must be a highly visible leader in the library, its service area and the Ohio library community. You will be expected to plan and implement an effective strategy for keeping the library relevant in its collections and technological offerings, while utilizing the facility to its fullest extent.
This individual will work closely with the library board, consortium, staff and public. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated, hard-working and independent staff. You must demonstrate strong, positive leadership; solid verbal and written communication skills; and technical competency. Requisite knowledge and skills are preferred in the areas of staff development, public relations, community outreach, funding/budgeting and overall library management.
A four-year college degree or comparable library related work experience is required. The successful candidate will preferably have 3-5 years of relevant library work and at least 2 years in a supervisory/management position. Candidates must be able to complete a successful background check. The salary range for this position will be $35,000 to $45,000 based on educational level and work experience.
Alexandria is a conservative, rural-based community with a library service population of 7,000 people (4,000 registered borrowers). There are 10 staff members (6 FTE). It is funded entirely through the state’s Public Library Fund and serves the Northridge Local School District. Alexandria Library is a member of the Central Library Consortium (CLC), one of the largest public library consortia in the United States. CLC is comprised of 14-member libraries in the Central Ohio area serving a combined 1.3 million card holders and circulating over 26 million items each year.
