All adults are welcome to participate in monthly book discussions. For a morning of lively discussion call 740.924.3561, email Miss Martha at firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the library to join Book Club. You need not be available every month in order to participate. The choice for January is The Wicked Boy by Kate Summerscale.
This month we are trying out a new genre: true crime, with a factual account of a Victorian child murderer. The Wicked Boy by Kate Summerscale is a deeply researched and atmospheric murder mystery of late-Victorian-era London. After getting suspicious, an aunt discovers the decomposing body of the mother of two boys, Robert and Nattie, who are arrested and tried for matricide at the Old Bailey. Take a trip into the heart of working-class London in 1895 with this account of murder in a time of evolving theories of criminality, childhood, and insanity.
